Don't vote for Kevin Scott, Maine (Originally posted before the Elections)

I had emailed all the people running for Governor in Maine asking them if they were pro-choice, wanted Marriage Equality or wanted to repeal DADT. Big things you know. Scott has emailed me and I have to say that his was the weirdest:

Women have the right to thier own decisions in all matters, i also support my personal moral view which is life. Equal rights YES, this must be at the Federal level as in 8 major democracies of the world - Canada included. I do not support redefining marriage. My personal moral values should not be a subject of my ability to administer State government.

Heather, for too long we have allowed politics to divide us on impossible moral issues, it is time we focus on the things we can improve for all in common - education, agricultural economy, motivated State workforce, etc...

Sorry, but what is the last part of your question?

At first I was really confused.....so I wrote back:

Women have the right to thier own decisions in all matters, i also support my personal moral view which is life. Are you pro-choice or pro-life?

Equal rights YES, this must be at the Federal level as in 8 major democracies of the world - Canada included. I do not support redefining marriage. So you don't believe in Marriage Equality? Would you help repeal DADT?

I am interested in those other things, but I want to know is are my rights going to be withheld? Am I going to be able to marry my girlfriend? If I get pregnant and I might die from it, am I going to be able to get an abortion? That's what I want to know.

Then he got a little upset with me:

Heather, you are asking one man, just one.

I am a student of government. The answer you seek is in our Constitutional government.

Right now you have he legal protection of abortion - I have no control over that and nor do I want to, it is a societal decision in our Country and one that is made by our highest court.

Marriage - it is a federal issue. I personally do not want to redefine marriage but if our system of government upholds that then what will you have me do? I am a person committed to our system of government, if it works for or against my personal views is not in my control.

You should remain at ease knowing our system is not perfect but it does work, over time.

Thanks for asking,

Kevin

This means: I am not pro-choice, I don't support Marriage Equality, and please don't ask me to help repeal DADT. Eliot Cutler and Chellie Pingree were the only ones who gladly said that they were pro-choice and for Marriage Equality. I may have pushed the guy, but it really matters if he decides to move on in his political career.

Some Links to Look over: Voting is powerful, vote pro-choice. Feminists For Choice talks about voting pro-choice.
