I had forgotten about Beltane being celebrated at Popham Beach tomorrow. A Maypole will be erected with its many ribbons of the past May Days still decorating it. Once bread is passed all along the circle we start with grabbing our ribbons and tying them atop the rod. We finally stick the big pole in the ground and we take our ribbons and start weaving in and out.
Our dance symbolizes the joining or sexual union of the God and Goddess. This Holy Day represents the fertility of the land awakening to the sun’s rays. This is strictly female and male symbolism; the phallus and the womb. Apparently the word and body part vagina is taboo. Wicca is a fertility religion after all. It centers on procreation.
That’s why I go gay sometimes. I have two Matron Goddesses= Uni and Gaia. Uni is the star goddess and Gaia the earth goddess. I married them.
I am celebrating the different sexualities and of course my own queerness. The generic God and Goddess marriage aside, there is always looking upon the deity who is intersex or bisexual or even genderqueer. There is also a facet of Divinity who is transgendered or transvestite and celebrating them today. I don’t ask specifically for a particular deity but ask for the general divine being who has the specifications that I want.
Also in light of Beltane, I am going to ask for my friends to come out and be proud of their sexuality and gender this May Day! As I play with Divinity gender roles today I am going to be thinking about all my LGBT friends and Gay (LGBT) marriage.
I also did an annual Handfasting today with my boyfriend. This is our second Handfasting! We tie a ribbon around our left hands (the left hand is seen as the receptive hand). Our spirits/souls join along with our physical body. Like last Beltane we are Handfasted for a year until the next. I call the God and the Goddess for our joining since we are in a heterosexual relationship. We have fun in our rituals. The rituals are somewhat planned out but there is always room for spontaneity. Thats how I always do my rituals! I do hope that our legal Handfasting/Wedding won't be so makeshift!
