Some More Sexism For Yah'

I was yet again at another temp job, only three days long. I was selling tickets or handing out pamphlets. Once again, things got hairy for me. Oh, I guess that just happens to us girls, things get weird for us, oh well. NOT!!

Well, while there, there was another temp worker who I met at a previous assignment, let’s call him Kyle. Kyle is very reserved, very smart, and somewhat critical, yet kind, but very hard to get to know. Overall pretty good guy, and from what I know good employee. We met the people who were in charge, the two men, Peter and Lloyd (not their real names). Peter was very talkative guy, who used to be a salesman, now in charge of this whole event. Lloyd was the person who wanted to work with the temp agency that we were with and the person to talk or to report to in case of any complications. Both seemed very nice.

Kyle was in charge of the money, and he was good. We were working with another man from our temp agency, named, Justin (not his real name either). He is a chatty guy, but okay, lol. Really three was too many for the easiest job ever. However, there were complaints and Kyle usually explained to the customers why certain things were the way that there were which was great, because I am not very good at dealing with angry people. However when I came back from a bathroom break, Kyle was sent home because we had too many people. I was thinking, what? I couldn't believe it. Kyle was doing everything right, and Justin and I were just sitting there. I was made to take care of the money, which I didn't feel comfortable with. But I did.

The next day I sent up to the other entrance to sell tickets, and Peter went with me. Who seemed very talkative to me. I didn't even know what he was talking about, mostly about his ex wife, and the trial. It’s weird thing to talk about with your temp employee. I told Kyle yesterday I was reading a book on feminism the other day. Peter started to talk to me about his radio show and how he had Ani DiFranco songs on his show because you know, he likes strong women. He told me that he heard about my book. I knew he was full of bullshit. I have had a similar experience with an old guy who liked to say he was open minded about women (see sexual harassment entry). He would lean in on me, which was annoying; I only let one guy do that to me. Yuck. When Lloyd came to relieve me of this parasite, I had that same overcoming feeling of being uncomfortable. Justin was with him and joined me. He reminded me why I was still here. I am a woman. Or better yet, I am a girl (apparently you're still a girl even when you're an adult).

It just goes to show you, how far some men go to get close. Uncomfortably close. I made it clear to my temp agency, which is run by all woman, err sorry girls, who completely understood my agitation.

  1. man... I hate creepers. They LOVE me though!
I feel your pain though. Men just dont seem to get the body language.. or even regular language for that matter, when a woman says no or back off. I think they should be made to take a course in the language of women....
