I have been recently asked to join a group on one of my many pagan sites that I am part of, it’s' the Fluffy Bunny Hunters. I don't mind, so I joined.
Lets back up, when I first came across the wonderful world of the Pagan World Online, I came across a new term that caught my eye. It was the Fluffy Bunny. At first I thought it was a joke. But then the joke kept being told over and over again. I was thinking is ever going to end? People calling others fluffy? What was worse is that this was over the Internet. I didn't know what it was so I looked it up on the Internet. Here is a lovely definition from my friend at Wicca for Rest of Us: Fluffy Bunny, noun; someone who refuses to think, refuses to learn, and refuses to consider that they could possibly ever be wrong. Let’s back up further...
When I first read about Witchcraft I was schooled by Silver Ravenwolf, among other terrible writers. I believed everything I saw or read about Witchcraft and Wicca, including that they were the same thing. I will never forget the day when I joined that network. I told them that I was (and I shit you not!) that I was a Second Degree Self-initiated Witch! Now you can be self-dedicated but self-initiation is an oxymoron. End of story. What about Second Degree and being a solitary eclectic? My answer: It’s not going to happen. I was bitched out of my three-ringed circus post (I proclaimed my status via post). I learned my lesson. I was so mad about it, too and when I do think of it now I just kind of chuckle to myself.
I have always asked, 'what about the ones who are ex-fluffy bunny?’ At one point and time someone was a fluffy and then cleaned up. I just accept as a phase. What do we do with ourselves? Relearning is very hard, especially when you were taught by a great pagan writer (sarcasm).
When I added myself to group I was thinking that people take this us and them stand. It’s just stupid to. Perhaps showing them that at one point someone was like them and can teach them that eventually we all need to be grown ups and to think for ourselves. We know it’s hard to get away from the amazing New Age world, but at one point one need to move past the light and fluffy. We and they thinking make people take sides. I think this is reversing what we want to accomplish.
