I was looking up "How to be a feminist" the other day just to see what kind of information there was on different sites. Here is Wiki's advice. Here is how to be a feminist boyfriend by Bitch Ph.D. Here is how to have a feminist wedding, which is one of things I have wondered about myself. But what does being a feminist mean?
It surprising what some people say what feminism is: it's when you let your hair grow on your legs, switch to women lovers, and hate men for the rest of your life. Oh, if it were that easy! True, I am bisexual, but that is because that is my real sexuality it has nothing to do with me being a feminist. I do let my hair grow, but that is because I am lazy and I think shaving your legs is a huge waste of time and energy. Well, I don't hate men, but sometimes I get scared of them, I was sexually harassed just a couple of years ago, and that stays with someone. You can't forget something like that. But do these things make me a feminist? Not necessarily.
For me, it's about being myself fully and unapologetically. It's about being pro-woman, and pro-women rights, which means that I would be reading the news and blogs, and I am putting them forth on my blog page for reference. It's about being aware of sexism, classism, racism, homophobia (biphobia, transphobia included), and fatphobia (etc), and acting against them in any way, usually through blogging at this point. The dictionary definition still stands: the doctrine advocating social, political, and all other rights of women equal to those of men or an organized movement for the attainment of such rights for women. No hairy legs in there or lesbianism, hmm.
