Hecate Goddess of the Month (September)

This is a new thing here at the blog Wise Grrrl! I'll be writing about certain Goddesses that have influenced me while on my spiritual journey. This month I am writing about Hecate, Greek Goddess of the Crossroads.

There is always crossroads in our lives. We are met with a life changing/affirming decision and She is waiting for us there while we stand there uncertain between paths of unexplained futures. May we be blessed with Her presence as She guides us through the choices.

I had a personal experience with Her only week before the house burnt down. She had asked me if I wanted to live.

Surprised whilst sitting in my circle, enfolded in warmth. What a strange question to ask someone. Of course I responded saying no and said that I have to do something. There is something that I know that I am living for.

What I couldn't answer, but I knew that my life experiences must mean something. That next week I was the only person in that house when our dryer caught on fire. I got safely, but I really think it was my Will to live and my answer to the Goddess of death.

Now that I know I am supposed to be a Feminist Witch and serve the Goddess (you can still be a Feminist Witch and not) but I am not sure what I am supposed to be doing.

Hecate is not only a Goddess of the Crossroads and perhaps death, but of the three levels of the world, Heaven (Upperworld), Earth and the Underworld. Obviously being a Goddess of the Crossroads, this makes sense. Someone who has died can enter either of these Upperworld to meet and unite with Divinity, the Earth to reincarnate in another life and the Underworld to rest and recuperate.

Hecate is often seen as a Crone, but She can be Maiden, Mother and Crone. Another tripartite symbolism that plays with Her identity as a Goddess. It's interesting to note that three is used a lot in Mythology, especially in the Wiccan religion.

Hecate is often associated with witchcraft, well, that one is obvious, too. She is powerful Goddess, probably older than all the other Greek Gods.
